Abstract

Conflict and conflict resolution have always been a natural part of the human experience; however, the systematic study of the processes by which conflict is resolved has only developed over the last 60 years. The goal of this scholarship is to establish a reliable knowledge base that may serve as a means for improving human relations. If education is understood to be a preparation for life, it seems appropriate to find space in the curriculum for learning about the causes and effects of conflict and the means by which conflict can be transformed into a positive force in human development. Even though the curriculum of most schools is already at or over capacity, there are still many strategies for integrating lessons about conflict resolution into the existing course of study.
