Abstract
An issue has been identified with the diode tape used on the International Space Station (ISS) solar arrays to provide a high emittance surface for the underlying diodes. The diode tape consists of silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (Dow Corning QC-7725) with a protective Kapton over-layer to prevent sticking prior to solar array deployment. On-orbit, the Kapton over-layer will erode under exposure to atomic oxygen (AO). Under additional AO exposure, the underlying exposed silicone adhesive is expected to convert to a glass like silicate.
