Abstract
Nuclear minerals have long been studied in Turkey. These are Uranium and Thorium minerals. Uranium is found in Western and Central Anatolia in sediment and ore deposits and thorium on the other hand is found in complex type deposits in Central Anatolia. Since 1956, Mining Examination and Exploration Institute (MTA) conducted researches, drilling and performed mineral enrichment studies in laboratories and pilot plants for these two nuclear fuel minerals. There is Istanbul-Küçükçekmece Nuclear Research Institute in Turkey, which started its operation in 1955–56. Scientific works are conducted and highly qualified staff is trained in this institute.
