Abstract
This article discusses the Italian experience on natural gas transportation and development and the rationale for transferring knowledge and involvement in transit countries. Some aspects of the pipe protections and monitoring are presented with a description of some innovative monitoring techniques based on thermal anomalies detection and the use of fibre optic as sensors.
