Abstract
An article in Science Magazine in October 2003 listed the “Grand Challenges in Global Health,” a list of 14 research objectives which were selected from more than a thousand ideas submitted by scientists in 75 countries. They call for research into complex problems of vaccine production and delivery, genetics of insect vectors, drug resistance, and so on. The last two, challenges 13 and 14, are to develop technologies for assessment of individual and population health status.
Each of the chapters in this book is independent and deals with one or other aspect of Global Health in an authoritative manner. The purpose of this last chapter is to link some of the ideas expressed in a general overview of the issues.
