Summary
In this chapter, we have discussed the scenarios, in which the implementation of the advisory system and the multi-agent based system for mass customization is appropriate. Whereas the advisory system is suitable when the external complexity is high and the internal complexity is low, the multi-agent based system is an adequate solution approach when both external and internal complexities are high. In comparison to the advisory system, the multi-agent based system has a higher complexity because it has to retrieve data from several autonomous data sources that must be interfaced. In addition, we have depicted the technical infrastructure that can be required in order to realize the integration of the advisory and multi-agent based systems in the existing IT landscape of the mass customizer.
