Arthroscopic Removal of Loose Bodies in the Elbow

  • Mark S. Schickendantz

Summary

Arthroscopic removal of loose bodies from the elbow is a relatively safe and efficacious procedure. Knowledge of elbow anatomy and attention to proper surgical techniques are critical to avoiding potential neurovascular complications. Patients who have isolated loose bodies of the elbow can be expected to benefit the most from this procedure. Expectations should be tempered in cases of posttraumatic arthritis, degenerative arthritis, and other associated abnormalities.
