Abstract

Gauging aims at providing a metered (quantified) indication of a quantity of engineering interest, such as density, thickness, porosity and moisture. Fluid properties and flow measurements are also included in this category, as well as age measurement (dating) of archeological and aging objects. Usually gauging does not provide localized (probing) indications, and does not pertain to composition or elemental analysis. In addition, no imaging information are given by gauging. References [206], [379] and [380] provided a survey of radiation gauging devices in a number of industrial fields.
