Abstract
More than 100 scientists gathered in the city of Oaxaca to discuss the present status of low-dimensional physics. Many came from foggy and influenza-stricken Europe, coughing and sneezing, but the blue skies and mild breeze in Oaxaca pesuaded all these ailments to disappear very quickly. The flowering trees, the beautiful hotel Victoria, the Mexican hospitality, and the meeting with old friends soon returned everybody to a good humor and created a unique atmosphere at the conference.
