GSM in the Indoor Business Environment

Abstract

As more business users use their GSM mobile phones in the office a big demand is being place upon the cellular operators. With limited frequency spectrum and high traffic requirements the basestations are moving indoors. Cell sizes are being reduced and high quality coverage is expected. This chapter presents a set of models that can be used to determine the coverage expected from an antenna in any given environment. With the antenna being closer to the user, new radio specifications are needed, these have been reflected in the new ETSI phase 2+ standard and are described in section 3. Solutions for transporting the RF to the antennas are presented in section 4.
