Summary
The sciences have evolved over the course of humankind’s existence in a somewhat consistent pattern of stages. A particular science may be in one stage of evolution while another science may be in another stage. This pattern for the evolution of science has been developed in this chapter based on the evolution of the physical sciences because the latter have evolved further than other sciences. The science evolution pattern is based on the emergence of ideas and the development of ideas to the extent that they have been verified as invariant and hence are laws of science. This pattern is shown to be applicable to the evolution of living systems science and therefore can be used as a model for the further evolution of quantitative living systems science.
The model is used to describe the stage of living systems science evolution. The major ideas, concepts, and laws of living systems science are described so they can be used as a base for the further evolution of the science. The next stage of the evolution of living systems science is identified.
