A Circular Ultra-Wideband Antenna for Wearable Applications
With the advent of small wearable antenna, the development of body-wearable sensors has leapfrogged. The wearable devices have wearable antennas as their backbone. An antenna is deemed fit for wearable applications, like on-body sensors, if it has a small profile, light in weight and low antenna-body coupling. In this paper, we present a circular patch antenna (Φ = 2.6 cm) with 4 square slots on the edges on a cylindrical FR4-epoxy substrate (Φ = 4 cm). The antenna is small, thin and exhibits an impedance bandwidth of almost 1.9 GHz and a return loss of −19 dB centred around 3.8 GHz, and a bandwidth of 0.5 GHz and a return loss of −22 dB around 9.7 GHz.
