Performance Comparison of Adaptive Algorithms for Smart Antenna of Dipole Array

Abstract

Recently, the most important technology used in 4G and 5G mobile communications is adaptive smart antenna. The smart antenna is a retrodirective transmit and receive radio signal system. The design of smart antenna of λ/2 dipole array using sign least mean square (SLMS) and variable step-size SLMS (VS-SLMS) algorithms is reported in this paper along with comparative results between these two algorithms regarding adaptive beam formation in a cellular network. VS-SLMS algorithm can produce lower side lobe level (SLL) compared to SLMS algorithm, and also, the convergence of VS-SLMS algorithm is better.
