Brachytherapy in Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Limb salvage surgery has become the standard of care of soft tissue sarcoma in recent decades. Radiotherapy has played a major role in attaining equivalent local control and survival with limb salvage surgery as opposed to amputation. This has definitely improved quality of life in survivors. Some studies suggest better local control when brachytherapy is combined with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). This chapter will highlight the pre-requisites for brachytherapy monotherapy, indications to combine brachytherapy with EBRT, procedure of catheter insertion and provide a note on intra-operative radiotherapy in soft tissue sarcoma.
