Abstract

One of the recent revolutionary advances in external beam radiotherapy treatment in the last 2 decades was proton therapy. The major radiobiological advantage of proton therapy treatment over photon is the deposition of energy of the proton just prior to particle coming to rest called the Bragg peak. The Bragg peak can be spread out using various energy photons to produce the spread-out Bragg peak for therapeutic use. The chapter describes the basic physics, planning, as well as clinical uses of proton therapy.
