Prediction of California Bearing Ratio Using Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract

California bearing ratio (CBR) is one of the soul parameters for the pavement designs. CBR value can assess the stiffness and strength of the subgrade. Moreover, it was influenced by various properties such as index properties and compaction characteristics of the soils. The paper aims the viability of the swarm assisted particle optimization (PSO) for estimation or prediction of subgrade CBR. CBR estimation model equations by using PSO have been developed by considering index properties and compaction characteristics. The results show that the developed model equations are satisfactory agreement with the test data.
