Vocal Fold Scar

Vocal fold scar is mainly due to weakened or disappeared vibration of the vocal folds caused by the disruption or obliteration of the distinctive layered structure of the vocal folds, which may be accompanied by glottal insufficiency, affecting the phonatory function. Congenital factors, trauma, infections, tumors, surgical injuries and other factors can lead to the formation of vocal fold scars, which should be avoided by surgeons during operations (Figs. 13.1 and 13.2; Video 13.1).
