The Renaissance (1300–1700): The Rebirth of Knowledge

Abstract

We follow the Dark Ages—perhaps not nearly as dark and unenlightened as the name suggests—with the period known as the Renaissance. This time of rebirth began, in particular, with a renewed interest in learning, drawing on classical sources, and reforms in the process of education. Another defining characteristic of the Renaissance was the development of linear perspective, which was part of a more general move towards greater realism in painting.
