Al MMC Reinforced with Al2O3 and CU Prepared by Stir-Casting Method

Abstract

The aim of this work is to improve the strength of the aluminium metal by reinforcement of copper (Cu) and alumina (Al2O3) by stir-casting method. To improve the mechanical properties like strength and improve the resistance to corrosion, we are making composites with different compositions of copper and alumina by per cent weight (wt%). Aluminium metal matrix composite (MMC) has wide applications in aircrafts, defence and automotive industries because of its properties such as high strength, strength-to-weight ratio and wear resistance. An attempt has been made to improve the strength of the existing metal matrix composites of aluminium used in the aircrafts. Three sets of composites with different compositions of reinforced materials has been developed.
