Intrathyroid Thymic Carcinoma
Intrathyroid thymic carcinoma is a malignant epithelial tumor of the thyroid gland with thymic epithelial differentiation. The carcinoma was initially proposed by Miyauchi et al. in 1985 as intrathyroidal epithelial thymoma. It affects middle-aged adults with a slight female predominance and appears as painless mass in the lower pole of the thyroid. About 30% of the cases have nodal metastasis, but the prognosis is not poor. In this chapter, we present a case of intrathyroid thymic carcinoma and discuss its cytological differential diagnoses.
