General Principles in the Management of Dysphagia
Treatment of dysphagia follows some general principles. Identifying the cause, the components of the deficit, and the relevant patient factors has prime importance. The appropriate treatment regimen must be implemented after evaluating the patient, considering the options and after weighing the risks versus benefits. The compliance from the patient and adherence to the regimen should be made sure. This chapter summarizes the basic principles in the treatment of dysphagia as applied to the head and neck cancer patients.
