Abstract

Anatabine is the most important alkaloid found in the root, fibrous roots, or bark of Alangium chinense (Lour) Harms. Alangium chinense contains alkaloids, sugars, saponins, steroids, triterpenes, anthraquinones and their glycosides, and other ingredients. Alangium chinense shows great potential for treating rheumatoid arthritis. Anatasine is one of the main active ingredients in this plant, and it acts as a noncompetitive muscular relaxant. In clinics, this plant is used with other medicinal plants for treating acute soft tissue injury and degenerative arthritis, herpes zoster, rheumatic heart disease, chronic rheumatoid arthritis, pulmonary hemoptysis, breast abscess, and so on. This plant-based formulation has been widely used.
