Card Tricks Discovery Learning and Flow in Mathematics Teacher Education
Chapter
Abstract
Although contemporary thinking on the teaching of mathematics calls for an abundance of teacher orchestrated collaborative discovery learning, the reality is that most mathematics classrooms are dominated by healthy doses of direct instruction, teacher led exemplification, followed by the assignment of homework. This results in students coming to see mathematics as a collection of rules to be memorized and routines to be mastered.
