Growing up Gay in the Black Church and Rural Ohio
Chapter
Abstract
When I first walked into Mrs. Mitchell’s fourth grade classroom at Carlisle Elementary School, I knew my life was never going to be the same. After landing a promotion at the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio, my father moved my two younger sisters and me out of Columbus, Ohio’s, inner city and into the small rural town of Delaware, Ohio, in order to move closer to his job and give us a “proper” suburban upbringing.
