Abstract

Paraphrasing J. J. Rousseau’s key pedagogical ideal, ‘Life is the trade I want to teach him’ (‘Vivre est le métier que je lui veux apprendre’), we would like to teach every teacher the ‘teaching trade’. Rousseau’s ideal seems ‘lofty’, and yet, in reality, it is very common: we educate so that we can make of our lives something created with our own hands.
