“Golfparken” and “Constructions”
Abstract
Aalborg Friskole is a small private school established in 1981 in an attempt to realise some of the more progressive pedagogical ideas which had been much discussed in Denmark since the beginning of the 1970’s, but which also had been difficult to realise in the big comprehensive schools geared to normal education. At Aalborg Friskole, much experience has been gained in organising project work, on both a large and a small scale and at different levels. One subject, however, had never been integrated into the interdisciplinary features to any considerable extent: mathematics. This subject had been thought to be too difficult to integrate in real project work, so in mathematical lessons the teaching followed ordinary textbooks; and while project work and thematic approaches were organised in different subjects and as interdisciplinary enterprises, mathematics remained the reserved onlooker.
