Abstract
The photorespiratory metabolites, glycolate and D-glycer-ate, cross the chloroplast envelope on the same carrier (1, 2, 3, 4). The overall stoichiometry of this transport, during photo-respiration, is proposed to be two glycolates plus one proton leaving the chloroplast and one D-glycerate entering it (3).
