The endometrium in the menopause

  • Chapter
Female and Male Climacteric

Abstract

The effects of exogenous oestrogens on the endometrium have become of special significance to both the medical and lay public. Oestrogens have been suggested as an aetiological factor in the development of endometrial cancer, thus causing concern to physicians; and sensational handling by the media of any reported oestrogen/cancer link, however ill- or well-founded, inevitably distresses patients. Few topics provoke more discussion amongst well-informed clinicians and the resultant controversy only confuses the non-expert medical practitioner.
