Metamorphic experiments on solid—fluid reactions
A fluid phase generally accompanies the mineralogical and textural changes which take place during progressive metamorphism, and its presence greatly influences the whole metamorphic process. The importance of such a fluid is not, of course, obvious from looking at the finished product of the process, which may be a dense, volatile-free rock with about zero porosity and permeability. There are, however, several reasons for our asserting its importance.
