Abstract
Much has been written on boudinage structure since it was originally exhibited to la Société Géologique de Belgique in 1908, and later in 1922 to the Congrès Géologique Internationale, at Bastogne by Professors Max Lohest, Stainier and Fourmarier; but until about 1950 it was still considered a rarity. Now it is well known, but one finds that the term is being misused. It is not uncommon for any detached, freely-floating rock-inclusion in a metamorphic complex to be referred to as a boudin, regardless of its shape or origin. Rast (1956) has proposed the term tectonic inclusion for such bodies; Maclntyre (1951) called them ‘fish’.
