Abstract
Irrespective of the nature of their individual fatty acid synthetases, all plants and micro-organisms that synthesise fatty acids de novo require the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase and a source of acetyl-CoA in order to provide the necessary malonyl-CoA.
