Abstract

Photoinhibition affects photochemistry of PS II by modifying Chi-protein complexes (1,2), lipid composition (3), electron transport activity (4) and accelerate the turn-over of D1 protein (5) in the thylakoid membranes. These studies were mostly performed with isolated systems. However, photoinhibition in vivo is difficult to interprete as the effects observed are the end result of catabolism and repair processes occurring during photoinhibition. In addition to high light, high temperature is also injurious to PS II (6).
