Abstract

Microemulsions are transparent liquids, which contain large amounts of water and hydrocarbons. They are stabilized by a surfactant or a combination of an ionic surfactant and a nonionic cosurfactant. They are distinguished from solutions because they contain droplets or long lived aggregates of colloidal size.

This article is a brief overview of microemulsions which do not contain droplets.
