Abstract

Cholelithiasis is a very common, world-wide disease; however estimates of its frequency have been made for many years, in autopsy studies and in studies on clinically diagnosed gallstone cases [1–3]. These studies cannot give a real insight into the problem, because a large proportion of gallstones remains asymptomatic and therefore ignored for many years or even forever [4,5].
