Abstract

Among 30 patients of myeloma, 2 cases were recognized to develop manifestations suggestive of amyloidosis during the clinical courses. Both Japanese females, with an age of 50- and 55-year-old, respectively, had been instituted on myeloma chemotherapy of continuous low-dose melphalan-prednisolone administration. Marked changes in the clinical features were noted around 6 to 10 months prior to their deaths. Subjectively, they started to have complaints of lassitude and palpitation. Objective findings included weight loss, decreased both blood pressure and pulse pressure, obvious appearance of macroglossia, cardiac arrythmia and abnormal cardiac echograms.
