PAH-Degradation by Bacteria — Bioassay for the Evaluation of Microbial Soil Remediation

Abstract

For the use of microbiological remediation technologies it is necessary to inspect the biodegradability of soil contaminants. Expediently, such investigations are carried out at laboratory scale at defined conditions concerning temperature, mixing, pH, nutrient and oxygen supply. In the laboratory assay, developed by DMT, the contaminated material is incubated as a slurry in a glass airlift bioreactor monitoring the biodegradation of the contaminations by analysing samples withdrawn from the homogeneous soil slurry.
