Effect of containers, on total losses during grapes transportation and improvements for reduction in 3 years

Abstract

In India, during the period 1980–85, the grape registered an increase by over 9 times in area and 27 times in production (Kaul, 1987). India produces annually 2.37 lakh tonnes with the average production of grapes in India is 25 ton/ha which is the highest in the world. The crop is harvested from December to March and the glut in the market is created in this period in southern states. Whereas in northern states, harvest starts from May and peak period is from June to July. So this difference in the seasons of availability offers great scope for distant marketing.
