Abstract
The rate of heat loss (whether by radiation or evaporation) from a warm body to a cool environment is proportional to the surface area of the body; the lower the surface area-to-volume ratio, the slower the loss of heat. A number of ‘Zoogeographical Rules’ have been suggested from this and other physical laws.
