Categories in the Parameters Perspective: Null Subjects and V-to-I

  • M. Rita Manzini

Abstract

The primary aim of this work is to provide an account for the null subject and V-to-I parameters and for their interaction. The data considered are the standard ones in Rizzi (1982) for null subjects, and in Pollock (1989) for V-to-I (in finite sentences). Our discussion is articulated in three sections. After an introduction to parameters and phrasal dependencies in section 1, our version of the V-to-I parameter is presented in section 2, our version of the null subject parameter, together with our conclusions, is presented in section 3.
