The Origin of Noncircular Gas Motions in the Galactic Center
Chapter
Abstract
Using the fully sampled 12CO J=1-0 AT&T Bell Laboratories survey of the Galactic center, we favorably assess the hypothesis that the expanding molecular ring (EMR) is the source of noncircular gas motions in the Galactic center. Strong evidence for bulk radial gas motions in the GC, as prescribed by the EMR model, is provided by AFGL 5376, a ~ 90-pc-long shock located about half a degree from the Galactic center.
