Requirements for Evaluation and Reuse of Soil Material

Abstract
Improper, unregulated deposition of soil material * may result in environmental contamination. However, proper use of soil material can be beneficial provided they should have useful properties and should not have a potential to harm the environment. Reuse of soil material is possible for construction projects1 or for improvement of soil functions3 but excavated soils intended for reuse must meet minimum requirements concerning their chemical and physical attributes. The principles to be followed are given in German technical regulations 1,2and standards3 which provide guidance for sound handling of soil material for reuse.
