Technetium-99m labelled leukocytes: preparation, animal studies and potential application

Abstract

Several authors have used labelled phagocytes to detect inflammatory foci in cases of infection2,3. 51Cr was the first marker used but its high photon energy and long physical half-life are obvious drawbacks4. Other gamma emitters such as 67Ga have also been suggested for human leukocyte labelling5 and for direct intravenous administration in abscess detection.
