Chromosomal abnormalities in malignant lymphoid cell proliferations: recent advances
Abstract
The coincidence of chromosomal breakpoints of acquired chromosomal rearrangements of cancer cells with protooncogene localizations has brought new insights on the pathogenetic mechanisms of cancerogenesis. Although the Burkitt lymphoma (BL) has been one of the first examples of human malignancy studied with molecular biology and molecular cytogenetic techniques, we now know other examples of malignant lymphoid cell proliferations illustrating this new approach of cancer study. The recognition of new chromosomal abnormalities and of new genes or DNA sequences has brought significant advances in this field since the last few years.
