(H3C)2C=C(CH3)2, (H3C)2BN(CH3)2, (H3C)BF and (H3C)3B. Further Evidence for a π → σ* Assignment of the Olefin UV “Mystery” Band
Conference paper
Summary
UV photoelectron spectra and far uv spectra of R2C=CR2, R2BNR2, R2BF, and R3B (R = CH3) are assigned. Substracting uv excitation energies from corresponding ground state ionisation potentials lead to excited state ionisation potentials, the comparison of which lends further credit to the n π → σ* assignment of the olefin uv “mystery band”. The excited state ionisation potentials can be satisfactorily calculated using the Rydberg series formula.
