Abstract

The pathogenesis of dysthyroid orbitopathy is largely unknown. Immunological disease has been discussed recently. No correlations have been found between the dysthyroid state and the development of endocrine orbitopathy. It occurs even in patients with euthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Often the eye symptoms appear with a latency of several years after the onset of endocrine disturbance and in other cases they are the first sign of this disease.
