Microcomputer Networks for Process Control
Conference paper
Abstract
There are many advantages in the use of a distributed network of microcomputers for process control applications, including fault tolerance, local intelligence, and incremental expansion. This paper presents a communication system architecture for a Distributed Computer Control System (DCCS). It is based on interconnected subnetworks, allowing both rings and serial highways to be used for the subnetworks. Section 2 describes the communication requirements of a DCCS. Section 3 presents the topology, and section 4 the architecture of the communication system. Protocols are dicussed in section 5.
