Abstract

A high water content soft contact lens (Toray) is used as an ERG electrode itself. The potentials are led off by carbonic fibers coated with a nonconductor without using any metal. The electrode can be worn with no local anesthesia and the visual acuity is not reduced. The cornea does not dry up. Blinking can be controlled. The length of the recording session does not appear to be limited by the use of this electrode. ERP, flash-ERG and pattern-ERG were recorded with this electrode which is thought to be the ‘ERG electrode of the future.’
