Abstract
Since the 1976 NATO Advanced Study Institute on ‘Nitrogen Ceramics’, increasing attention has been directed in France to the properties of ceramic materials based either on silicon carbide or on silicon nitride and related systems (in particular ‘Sialon’ systems).
