Abstract

Carcinoma of the vagina is defined as a malignant lesion in the vagina which does not involve the external os of the cervix superiorly, nor the vulva interiorly. It accounts for about 2% of all gynecologic malignancies (1, 2). Herbst et al., in 1977 reported on the occurrence of clear cell adenocarcinoma of the vagina in women in their late teens and early twenties. This particular carcinoma was found to be related to the use of diethylstilbestrol (DES) by their mothers during pregnancy (3). In order to better delineate clear cell carcinoma, it will be described in a separate section in this chapter.
