A General Method for Determining the Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient of Thermal Storage Embedded Materials
Abstract
The EST (Equivalent Storage Temperature) Method for determining the overall heat transfer coefficient of thermal storage embedded materials is presented. The proposed procedure covers a gap in the existing literature, where very few may be found in the field of testing methods for thermophysical properties of particulate materials to be used in thermal storage packed beds. The method can be applied to either sensible and latent heat storages. An application is studied with a sensible-heat material, using air as transfer fluid. A comparison between experimental and calculated results is made, together with a sensitivity study of the influence of errors in data evaluation.
